About
Robyn
Robyn Chittister is an adoptive mom who started Meant to Be to
help other families find their children. She is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon
University, where she graduated with honors, majoring in Professional Writing
and Performance Studies. She has been a technical writer for 10 years, having
worked for Netscape Communications, Microsoft, and Oracle. She left the
profession in 2005 to concentrate on adopting a baby.
Robyn and her
husband, Max, chose to adopt domestically. They signed with
their agency in May 2005. Robyn created their adoption profile, and she
loved it so much, she began to plan a new business. The business would unite
Robyn's passions for scrapbooking and adoption to create forever families. Her
business plans were put on hold in October 2005, when she and Max matched with
an expectant mom in another state. Jackson was born on January 17, 2006. The
major factor in the match was the content of their adoption profile scrapbook.
The expectant mother specifically liked the photos of children playing in the
neighborhood and of their pet Betta fish, Nigel. The entire birth family perused
the profile, and it continues to be a favorite book. (The agency said the
profile was one of the best they had seen. What do you
think?)
Robyn, Max, and Jack continue to talk to Jack's
birthmother. Now that Jack is a happy, affectionate, and
intelligent toddler, Robyn has resumed her plans and has created Meant to
Be: Adoption Profiles, Lifebooks, & More.
About Robyn's
Work
Technical writing requires strict attention to detail and the
ability to work with deadlines. Robyn has an extensive design background, which
centers on defining the audience for the piece and making it useful and
interesting for that audience to read. Communication and information design are
well-known subjects. In addition to her work in the technical field, Robyn
donated her time to a community theatre organization, creating all of their
marketing materials and programs. The president of the organization said, "Robyn
not only did a great job, but her work increased our results more than we ever
could have imagined. She was highly imaginative, very personable, and was
extremely consistent in her work."
Robyn truly enjoys
helping people. She can now use her design, scrapbooking, and organization
skills to help other people complete their families. What an excellent way to
spend one's time!
